Take away from 2011

2011 for ME!

2011 was really good me... from various aspects!

First and foremost:
Generally people will be happy, if they buy house. One of the milestones in every body's life would be buying a house, though few have their own other priorities other than buying house and they tend to fulfill them.
I happen to buy one this year. It all started when my parents asked me whether they could start search a pair for me. I said, I would own a house, before they start searching a pair. Though searching flat was big task and materializing with aligning all other activities like loan, arranging money etc etc, I could accomplish it before end of this year. My friends who helped to search flat at different places, another friend who identified this project and motivated me till I agreed for it... Thanks to all of my friends.
Flat in some shape would be ready by end of next year.
I would say that this is one of the biggest achievements in my lifetime, which was accomplished in 2011. My parents played an important role for achieving this!

Second:
After coming to Pune, rather, after joining Tata Motors (Tata Technologies), I got my first appraisal in 2011. Though, it was not up to the expectation, I didn't mention about my own expectation only, as it was expected from many of my colleague. I had learnt out of the appraisal to work smarter than what I was last year.
General opinion of my present colleagues and ex-colleagues is that, I am good performer. They would rank my performance better than most of them. I feel proud to mention this here as I feel it is true to some extent.
The second half of the year had taken me to next level in-terms of handling crisis situation without taking them much on the head. I would say that 2011 has taught me this, though it was costly.
Third:
I have explored many places through travel. This year turned out to be one of the highest numbers of travel, I have undergone since my childhood. Barring them whether official or personal, number of trips were huge this year.
I could able to go to different place and meet different set of people.

Fourth:
Since, I am out of my hometown, I am missing my parents, sisters, and of-course my friends. I have very good time with my mom and dad when I visit my home every time.
Though I have traveled to my home town, more than 5, 6 times, I could not meet up with my close friend. Last visit during Dec 11 to 14th for registration, my friend could able to pull out some time from his busy office stuff and he could able to spend some time with me. I could not forget the moments.

Fifth:
Though, I started reading books couple of years before, I could not continue them meticulously during 2011. During the end of this year, I started again with the book "The Fountainhead". Thanks to my friend who has shown his books, which tempted

Sixth:
My roommate and I have decided to stay in the present flat as such after my third roommate shifted to new house after bringing his family. Both of us only, were staying for more than 6 months. However, we have decided to include one more person and stay as 3. Though the main intension was to share the expenses among 3 would reduce the burden, instead of sharing between 2.
I had no expectation of my new roommate. He is a colleague of mine in Tata Motors. After meeting him, I understood at first instance that he is such a nice person whom anyone will get along with him so easily. He is down to earth person. Though we see many people like this, but we rarely are with them for long time. I get an opportunity to be with such kind of person.

These are the moments that come to my mind when I started writing this post. However, there many other small small achievements, challenges during 2011.

I hope that 2012 would be filled with challenges, strong mind to overcome them, and finally ending up with achievements and experience.

I wish you and your family HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR 2012.

#4 I Believe

#4 I Believe
When you ask your friend (or relative) for money, it is not necessary for them to lend you, if they have. It is their own decision to or not to. If they don't, we cannot feel bad about it, as they can have their own reasons...

#3 I Believe

#3 I Believe
Argument never ends, unless otherwise one person compromises on the take away either by agreeing to it or by ignoring it
Though ignoring can also be looked as compromise...

Growth is Nature's law!

All of us like to grow... And of course all of us grow...!!!

Growth in Professional life:
Men (or Women) grow in office getting promotion, increment and appreciation.

Growth in Intellectual life:
Everybody gains knowledge by reading, from experience etc!
Being intellectual makes man to grow next level in life!

Growth in Personal life:
Getting married, having child.. and making parents as grand parents... All these are growth in personal life!

Growth in Spiritual life:
I feel, understanding "Who I am", "What is the purpose of my Life" is a continuous process and gives different answer at different age! Searching the answers is continuous growth in spiritual life!

Growth in Materialistic life:
Owning wealth is pride for a man, provided the source of money is from the proper way.

Everyone of us should be happy in what we have, in what we are given. If we are not happy, we should make the things happen as expected, so that we are happy!!!!

I am happy that I am growing and I want growth to happen continuously.

Growth is Nature's law!

#1 I Believe

#1 I Believe
To reach our destination, we need to travel....Whether we like it or not, we will have to undergo...Best thing is to like and love to travel to reach our destination!!!
People explore everything by travelling. Explore places by travelling. Creates, innovates by travelling through their own minds!!! People come to know about thyself by travelling inner!!

My first happening!!!

My first happening!!!

My first walk!
don't remember when I started walking... Of-course until it is told to anyone, nobody knows exactly. Nobody remembers it.

My first trip in cycle!
I didn't own a cycle during my school days... I was watching my friends coming to school in cycle. I still remember, it was my classmate, who comes from very much nearby place, first got his cycle in the entire class. Thought, I felt that I didn't own a cycle, I now recollect that during my 6th standard, 1 complete year, my father dropped me at school every day morning in his cycle. Everyday morning cycling for about 6 km in cycle is not easy thing.. My father did that! That was my first trip in cycle!

My first journey in train!
My grandfather and grandmother lived in town which is few hundred kilometers away from Chennai, where we stayed. Hence we would travel in train during vacation... I could not recollect exactly which was my first journey in train. However, I could not never forget two journey.
One: This was a pleasant journey...
When I travelled along with cousin and parents. It was Dec 31st. I could not recollect the year. Its almost 12 midnight. Everybody wished others for the new year. My cousin refused to greet others. The reason, she told!!!!! She told that she wanted to greet her father first!! She must be only 10 years then. I could never forgot!
Two: This could not be called as pleasant journey, though...
After coming to Pune, I travelled to my home town last month in AC compartment. I book tickets in any compartment based on the ticket availability. Generally I prefer AC coach.
I felt suffocation to the core in the AC compartment, since AC was malfunctioning in our coach. I almost felt like getting down from the train. The feel was so terrible. I was unable to breathe. Ah!!!!

My first journey in bus!
Almost most of the early days of my life was spent in travelling in bus only.  My school is situated 7 km away from my home. I went to school from 7th on wards by bus. It was difficult by travelling in peak hours from my home to school, since the bus was always rush.

My first bike ride!
Somehow, my first bike ride was in my bike. Though I got my license by driving my cousin's Scooty, I have never taken outside for any work. I waited until I bought my "Discover". In fact I learnt to drive bike only on my Discover.

My first air travel!
It was when my interview was scheduled at Pune. I have flown first time a year and half before.

My first sea travel!
This has not yet happened. Though, I had taken a small trip in boat in lake...
I am waiting for an occasion to travel by ship!!!

Travel makes a person to explore...

Maniratnam's movies are close to my heart!

Maniratnam's movies are close to my heart!

His thoughts are different.. He thinks aloud... He has brought different view to Tamil cinema first followed by Indian cinema!!! He has introduced my favourite music director A.R. Rahman!!!
There could be so many reasons that could be added...
But, I have very much personal reason for Maniratnam's movie recent years!
I have shared the reason with my friends.. Some told me that I have gone mad rather some told that how could I correlate Maniratnam movie with the happening!!!

First Correlation:
Aayutha Ezhuthu (Yuva in Hindi):
When this movie was released in Tamil, I was in my first job.  It was no correlation as such then...
I liked the movie for
     Wow songs
     Screen play
     Surya and Isha
     Story
The film release month and job reporting month coincides...

Second Correlation:
Guru:
This is the next movie for Mani, as all of us know.
I was in theatre watching this movie... I liked the attitude of Ash and Abhi in this movie. It was well portrayed by Mani. I remember most of the dialogue. I loved almost every scene!!!
Now, you may wonder, what was the correlation?
Ya.. Coming to the point. I got a call from HR.. That was my second job!!!
I got interview call from HR for the job opening! I attended and switched over to second job!
This was just a correlation... And the correlation continues...

Third Correlation:
Raavanan (Ravan in Hindi):
All of us know, Raavanan (Ravan) is Mani's next movie.
By this time, you might have correlated.
If not, let me tell u...
By the time, this movie is released, I am in my third present job!!
Photography was excellent... Concept of the movie (though it was crux from epic Ramayana)... The way in which, Ash was directed.... Two songs from this movie... Really awesome... "Usure pogudhey: ("Behene De" in Hindi) and "Kalvarae kalvarae" ("Khilli Re" in Hindi)....

Though this was just a correlation and nothing more than my correlation, I am eagerly waiting for next direction from Maniratnam!!! :) :)

There is no other reason to wait other than seeing his next good movie!!!

Today is my niece Swathi's birthday

Today is my niece Swathi's birthday! "Happy Birthday Swathi!!!"

When I went to my hometown during Diwali holidays, I told her that I wont be able to come to her birthday as I would be in Pune and call her during her birthday.

She is 8. She was expecting my call since morning. Right after she got up from her bed, she asked her mom... "Amma! Mama call pannagala??".. which means "Mom! Did Uncle call??"...

Every time, today when some body like grandparents rang up, she said, it would be me only... So cute!!!

When she was pasting her teeth, when she was bathing... She was expecting my call minute by minute!!!! Fantastic lovable kid!!

My sister told me all these stories, when I called her... She gave the phone to my niece, innocently my niece asked me "Yen call panninga, yenna??"... which means "Why did you call me, what??"

I could not stop laughing... I told birthday wishes in tamil "Pirantha naal vazhthukkal!!" She was expecting me to say "Happy Birthday!!".

She is used to "Happy Birthday" only, from all relatives, friends etc etc..

She did not understand and asked what I told...

I told her in english.. She understood and replied me "Thank u thank u thank u!!"

Wow.. Fantastic... I was moved.. A child waiting for my call... I loved it..

Today is a great day for me, filled with lots and lots of love!!!

Happy Birthday Swathi!!! Love u so much!!

Getting along with people is an art!

Getting along with people is an art!

All of us have to get along with  mixture of different characters around us! Being office environment, school environment, society what may be!

We tend to align our response in favor of others for people who we like.
We tend to think why cant others do mind their own business instead of poking into my activity for whom our thoughts do not align.

It happens most of the times for most of the people.

But keeping our space for ourselves and getting along with people is an art!

It is the way of life!

Unplanned activity really messes up the mind!

Yesterday was perfect example for me, how a day will start and end, if I don't plan my activities...
Everyday is an experience which teaches me either how days should be or how things not to be!! Learning never ends for a day!
Yesterday taught me how most of the instances would pass and how a situation will unnecessarily hinder my regular work (what you thought or how your time like to be)

Supplier visit was planned at Bangalore. Ticket was booked by my HR.

Learning #1:
Usually: I take print out of tickets well in advanceThis time: I took print out last minuteLearning: Never wait to take the printout
Learning #2:
Usually: I arrange my packing. Since this was only one day trip, nothing much was taken except for additional sweater in my laptop bag along with Lapps.
This time: I regularly carry 1/2 foot steel ruler in my bag. This will be used for any immediate linear measurement.Learning: Being a steel ruler, security check in at airport asked me completely take off all the stuffs in the bag and checked again. Need to re-arrange everything. Not to take steel ruler when travelling in flight (Though, finally, it was given to me).
Learning #3:
Usually: I arrange for my return travel to airport as well. This time: I was concentrating on supplier visit and missed arranging for return travel to airport (This cannot be an excuse).Learning: Not to repeat this again.
Apart from 3 learning's, there are much more learning's...

Thanks to cab driver, who has driven 80Km in 1.5 hours in congested Bangalore traffic. Without him, I would have not caught the flight.
Somehow, last night, Bangalore airport was bit free and could able to complete check-in faster.

Planning makes a man's life easy!!!
I would never redo the same mistakes as there are so many mistakes to do (on the lighter note)!!

Listening Music is self-enjoyment! Playing Music is enjoyment for self and for others!!

Listening Music is enjoyment for self! Playing Music is enjoyment for self and for others!!

Right from every person's childhood, music is always been a part of him / her in every action or the other. Its the way one notices or neglects it.

Most of the time during my school days (even now), I hum film songs, when I walk from bus stand to school and vice versa... It was a nice experience, memorizing film songs and humming them... I was waiting to see Doorshan channel (DD1 and DD Metro then) to listen to new songs released then.

I still remember, it was Fim "Roja" (for non-tamil readers.. Film directed by Mr. Maniratnam, Music scored by Mr. A. R. Rahman, National award winning film, Most of the people of other states are also aware of this movie, as it was dubbed and released in Hindi, Marati, Telugu and many other languages). All songs were damn good.  Then, I was die hard fan of  songs of "Kadhal Desam" (Tamil movie). At one point of time, "I thought that when I grow up and when I buy walkman, I need to have it"... But later, so many songs of A. R. Rahman are hit... And whenever, those songs are heard, I feel nostalgic!

My interest on music, shifted from film songs to Carnatic and Sufi songs.
Even though I am poor at the basics of fundamental of Carnatic music such as "Swaram", "Ragam", "Thalam" etc etc, I love listening them though I dont understand the basics... I would compare that with non-engineer enjoying engineering output!!

Listening music gives pleasure to the listener!!! However, to make others as listener is still more pleasurable event. To do so, one must play music...  On the kidding note: One can also play music on laptop or ipod to make others to enjoy music. But I did not mention that.

Playing music in an instrument gives pleasure to self and others (Of course if, played properly).

In the same context, I always wanted to play an instrument from my child hood, which never materialized.  But now, it is not the so.

I started learning guitar last week. Three classes over. Wow.... Notes and Chords are the basic one. I am learning them one by one... Hope by soon, I will play basic and easy songs....

I have not come to a stage, where I can say that I enjoy myself of my music. I am still under the initial learning curve. But I can surely tell that I enjoy myself playing guitar and learning to play an instrument...

Happy Playing!!!

Tasting tasty food!!

Happy Eating!!!

Being away from my home makes me to cook and eat at night.. I enjoy doing so and I feel comfortable as well!!!

In the event of cooking everyday, I keep trying new dishes whenever I feel and want to!!!

New dishes: Dishes, which I have not tried making earlier...

Of which, recent exploration was "Kozhukkattai"... It is famous South Indian dish mainly made during "Ganesh Chatturthi".

Saturday evening was so empty. Emptiness was not in kitchen or in fridge... It was in my thoughts. I was thinking something and could not concentrate on me. That was my first Saturday after coming back from my home staying nearly 2 weeks... My entire thoughts was circling around my home! I thought for a moment "How home sick I am"! Really surprised me.

I generally do cooking / listening to music / busy with my friends or parents over phone / whenever I want to engage myself. I chose to prepare new dish to fill my time. Quick dish came to my mind is "Kozhukkattai". I prepared it.. To my surprise, it came out very well. I could not imagine the situation.

Entire heart filled with happiness created by my tasty “Kozhukkattai”. I always feel so proud, if I try anything new and come out well.

I generally don’t wait for others’ appreciation. Here also, I appreciated myself for preparing mouth watering “Koshukkattai”.

I told myself “Happy Eating”!!!!

Children are the fun-full humans in the world!!! Admiring them makes me even more fun-full!!

Children are the fun-full humans in the world!!! Admiring them makes me even more fun-full!!

I always admire seeing kids... Especially when they cross me on the road, their innocent face takes me along with them! Whatever mood I am in, if I see a kid, my mood immediately transforms to pleasant!!

There are few reasons!!!

Reason 1: They are the best teacher in the world. They teach me how to be happy. They teach me how to do things as I wish. They teach me how not to be bothered unnecessarily by others' comment for unwanted stuffs...

Reason 2: They are brave. They never fear!

Reason 3: They never feel sorrow. They are like mirror... If we smile, they also smile!

Reason 4: They own beauty in everything they do!

Reason 5: They never have enemies!

Many reasons could be added... I cant go back to my child hood. However, I can keep my thoughts and actions young by admiring children!!!!

Price raise in Tamil Nadu!!!

Price raise in Tamil Nadu (TN) is the hot topic in the state...

TN Chief Minister though explained why she has raised the price, it was convincing from her point of view and from TN govt point of view.
But, if I put my shoes in peoples' leg, its really not possible for me to digest.

Until and otherwise, it would be benefit for the welfare of the state and treasury, it could be taken at positive step. But I don't think that would happen as the ministers and brokers only would be benefited out of the price raise.

I was talking to my mom and dad that we would need to adjust such a way that our monthly budget would take care of all the price increase and shortage does not occurs. We were discussing on the budget, where to adjust. The obvious point came out to reduce the savings! And no other cost reduction could be thought off, as we run our family so optimally.

But at the same time, I was also thinking that our family could manage these price raises. However, there are many other families in TN which could not manage these sudden bomb on their budget. Day today bus fares almost doubled, milk price as well increased to considerable level. Already people are under tremendous pressure due to petrol price rise and day by day increasing gold rates. Now gold is almost becoming not-reachable heights for certain class of people. Land price.... Many people dropped the idea of buying lands or houses...

The TN govt should have increased the prices in steps and not doubled like this. It really affects people very much.  There are so many jokes floating on FB for price increase! But it is not just a joke and its people's pain.

People who work in industries pay the taxes (rather they are been forcefully deducted). But industrialist and many people, to my knowledge don't pay full taxers. They should not be questioned rather should be taken for ride. All people who do not pay taxes to be straight so that the price increase burden does not affect the common man. This is one of the ways that immediately came to my mind.

Lights, Sweets and Crackers are triplet of Diwali and its celebration!!!

Lights, Sweets and Crackers are triplet of Diwali and its celebration!!!

Lights:
Generally, from my childhood, I have never seen seeing people celebrating Diwali with lights in Chennai (I spent most of my time till date in Chennai only), my native place and other parts of Tamil Nadu... However, I have learnt in my school days as "Diwali is a festival of lights".

Sweets:
My mom starts preparing  2 or 3 days well in advance. I enjoy eating them for most of the day.

Crackers:
I dont remember exactly when I stopped bursting crackers.... Probably it could be around 2002 or 2003, I stopped bursting them... mainly for two reasons. These two reasons may look imprudent, but still I owe not to burst crackers. Reason 1: It pollutes air a lot. Reason 2: Earlier child labor was involved in making of crackers. Now it is said that they have abolished child labor (Not sure how far it is true).
Explanation for Reason 1 may look complicated. Some could argue that, two wheeler also pollutes air and hence I could stop using it. However, I cannot afford to, since it has become mandatory for my transport other than trains or buses available.
I can refrain from crackers. I opine that I contribute for my nature to little extent for not  polluting her bursting crackers. Thanks to my parents as they support me for 9+ years.

First Loooooonnnnng Train Journey and Good learning!!!

Cultural interaction with an Assamese guy - Really liked it very much to know about Assamese culture! Following would brief this!

I have traveled in trains earlier and this 2011 Diwali trip to my home town was not the first one!!!
However, this was my first looonnnggg journey almost 26 hours! Last time when I traveled, close to 19 hours (it was "Chennai Express train" unlike "Mumbai Mail" this time!)
I had almost slept for first few hours and after which I could not do so. I had already prepared to travel in train for long journey along with a book named "Krishna : The man and his philosophy" penned by Osho, followed by my regular weekly magazine "The Sunday Indian". I had couple of movies on my lappy as well. This looks like my preparation was good for long journey to spend my journey time!!!
However, the actual was something different. The charging port next to my berth did not work and I had no other option other than switching off my lappy and spend my whole time on the book only.
I had finished magazine and half way through the book. Since the cabin light was  switched off, I could not continue much on reading. I could not sleep as well due to the suffocation inside the compartment (AC was intermittently working in the compartment. Having repeatedly complaining to the coach attender, nothing worked out - Need to know how to file a complaint for AC not working in the compartment)
There were two families: a kid (named Shawn) hardly 1 and half years and his parents (they are from Kolkata, settled in Pune going to Chennai to visit their relative house) , a girl (named Monita) probably 4 ~ 5 years and her parents (they are from Tamil Nadu, settled in Pune and goind to Tamil Nadu for vacation) and couple of working guys going for vacation to their home town... Arun, I forgot the other guy name (So bad about my memory!)
There was another guy whose native was Assam, studied in Pune, worked in Gujarat for couple of years and then going to Chennai and Kerala for family trip. He was the guy whom I spent couple of hours knowing about new things!!!

Bihu - Famous festival in Assam: Festival celebrated in Assam which is similar to Pongal in Tamil Nadu... He was explaining that this festival will be celebrated 4 times a year and all  people irrespective of cast and religion celebrate it!!!
Language: He mentioned that Assamese is similar to Bengali. Few interesting facts he mentioned. Assamese does not have gender form unlike hindi... "Main aatha hun" (I am coming for masculine), "Main aathi hun" (I am coming for feminine). They follow universal gender... "Main aatha hun" for both masculine and feminine. This is similar to Bengali..
He also mentioned that almost for everything people use only "Eat" for "drink", "take", "Sip", "Smoke"... For example, instead of "Drink milk", they use "Eat milk"... Instead of "Smoke Cigarette", they use "Eat Cigarette".... This was quite interesting!
Then we talked about dressings of Assamese people, food habits etc etc... He was interesting guy to explain about their culture and he was quite patient answering most of my questions.... He was also listening to my own tamil culture!!!!

There was also another discussion with Punjab guy earlier (not in train)... I would blog it next time!!!!

Loving nature is loving thyself!!!

I was staying at Purna Nagar for few weeks after I came to Pune..
But I switched over to Sahu Nagar.
I had many surprises when I came to Sahu Nagar flat....
One of them was huge garden in first floor!!! I felt that I was lucky to have big garden...
Initial days, Flat owner used to come and water all the plants...
But, I told him that I would be happy to water them...
It has become a practice for me to water them every two days once...
Whenever I go to my home town, I would take few roses from my garden (I own that as my garden until I stay in this flat...) to my home...
This time, I am planning for long vacation for Diwali... (~1.5 weeks). I would be missing my plants (However, my flat owner will take care of them)!!!!!

Loving nature is loving thyself!!!

Few things that makes me feel happy!!

Few things that makes me feel happy!!!
Cooking is one of the things that makes me feel happy!!!

Everybody opines on cooking as great task.. or event.. or boredom.. or worse thing...
Outcome of my cooking was initially and definitely worst taste... which transformed into good taste. (This is to be commented by others who eat my food)! However, I take liberty to say that I have improved upon on my cooking in last 1 year... I could see taste it myself.

This made me to try new recipes whenever I get time.
Now a days, I enjoy myself cooking and enjoy myself eating self cooked food. Hope I would graduate myself in cooking in next step...

Being away from home

Guys or girls someday happen to be away from their parents on account of staying at hostel during school or college days... or account of new jobs away from home...

But situation calls for it... I happen to move out of my home after 25 years of my life on account my job!
Initially we tend to fear and think what would happen if parents wont be beside us to support...

But life teaches us lot when we are away from home!
But now after being out of home for more than a year, I feel more strong mentally!!!!!
