Few of Ahmedabad is more of Chennai!!!
Travelling makes a man to explore more. Though, Internet has
made world in one pocket, still nothing like physically experiencing by self.
I had travelled to Ahmedabad for my official trip. The place
where I stayed, is few 10s Km away from Nano manufacturing plant. Hence I need to take a drive for some time. Ahmedabad city which I saw reminded me of Chennai mount road. The width of the road, sign boards on
the side of the roads, the shops and malls on the banks of the road, separator
and what not, resembled Chennai's mount road.
Same as in Chennai, most of the shops name board in
Ahmedabad is mentioned in English in the area where I was put up.
After returning back on the second day, I had few hours left
before going to bed. I thought I would go around the city for some time. I have
seen Sabarmathi river, where Kite festival would be celebrated in couple of
days. I compared with the only river flowing through Chennai. People, when they see anything new, most of the times, compare with the earlier
known or seen or heard things. I guess, this is the general nature of humans.
The river called Coovam flowing through Chennai, is only a carrier of city drainage to the sea. People who were born in Chennai in early
1900 will go mad, if they see present Coovam river at Chennai.
However, Sabarmathi river is still the clean. The driver
told me that the chief minister of Gujarat has taken initiative to maintain the Sabarmathi river.
Then I went to the old Ahmedabad city. Fantastic, it was!!
That comment was not for the way in which the old city is maintained... It was for the way in which it reminded me of my home town!! There is a place in Chennai called "Parrys Corner"... Exactly the same... The people, the roads, the crossing lane, width of the roads, the platform, shops on the platform, goods sold in the platform, the shopkeeper.... and what not! When I crossed the road, I checked the both sides of the road before crossing. But a man suddenly came from somewhere and crossed. I just stopped crossing. This exactly happens in "Parrys corner". Though I came from the market in short time, I could not take off from my memory about the Ahmedabad market - "Teen Darwaja".
I earlier remember reading Sarojini Naidu's poem on Market place in Hyderabad (I don't remember exactly). This reminded me of writing a post about Ahmedabad!
Though, the trip was very short, any place, which reminds of my home town Chennai, I love it!!!
